Delivery man killed after Audi rams his bike in Pune, driver detained

A Swiggy delivery man died and three others were injured after an Audi car rammed two bikes in a span of few minutes in Pune late Thursday, police said. The accused driver, who is a senior executive at a private firm, was detained after he fled following the accident.
The accident occurred between 1.30 am and 1.35 am in Tadi Gutta Chowk when the Audi first hit three people riding an Activa, causing them to fall and sustain minor injuries. Shortly after, the luxury car rammed another bike, severely injuring Rauf Akbar Sheikh, a Swiggy delivery agent, as seen in a CCTV footage.

Sheikh was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
The police later detained the accused driver, Ayush Pradeep Tayal, a 34-year-old resident of Hadapsar, after identifying him through CCTV footage in the area. The Audi that was involved in the twin accidents was also seized.
“The accused is a senior executive at a firm in Ranjangaon MIDC and he has been sent for a medical examination to ascertain if he was intoxicated at the time of the accident,” said Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil.
A case was registered against Tayal under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Motor Vehicles Act, the official added.
The fresh hit-and-run incident in Pune came following a similar accident in Pune on May 19 when a 17-year-old who was drunk struck a bike carrying two IT professionals with his Porsche, which resulted in their deaths.
The case triggered public outrage after the minor got bail within 15 hours and with conditions from the court, including writing a 300-word essay on road accidents.
On July 16, an SUV driven allegedly by Saurabh, the son of former corporator and NCP (SP) leader Bandu Gaikwad, rammed two people in Pune, injuring them. According to sources, Saurabh was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
In a similar-hit-and-run case in Mumbai, a BMW struck a two-wheeler carrying a couple in the city’s Worli area, killing a woman after she was dragged for 1.5 kilometres while her husband suffered injuries. The accused Mihir Shah, the son of the now-sacked Shiv Sena leader, was arrested and is in judicial custody.
